I picked up the Belkin Easy Transfer Cable for Windows 7 from the grab bin at my local Staples for about $4.00. The Windows 8 ones (electrically identical) were about $32.00. Any one that uses the FTDI networking chip will do.
Others are available in all manner of combination from USB to DB9 to Null Modem and can be combined with DB9 M/F or F/F null modems or null modem cables. The best one is a USB to USB null modem cable such as the one listed. They must use the FTDI chip to be recognized and initialized by the GRUB 2.00 boot loader. The chassis above has front USB ports and rear DB9 serial ports, so the easiest way to connect to them when rack mounted is using the front USB. Most notebooks that you would use to attach to them do not have serial ports, so USB at both ends (like the one listed) is best.
